How to control 3rd party batteries?

I suppose that batteries made by like BYD or tesla are not easy to be controlled by 3td party EMS.
Does the Tesla or BYD make their interface open? or there is a industrial standard interface for interoperability ?

Thank you!

Hi tei,

sorry for the late reply and welcome to the community. An energy storage system (ESS) consists of the battery and the battery inverter (and the EMS). If you want to remote-control an ESS, you typically communicate with the battery inverter. Those are very often not by BYD or Tesla, but by manufacturers like SMA, Sinexcel, Siemens/KACO, etc., which very often have open interfaces. Very often Modbus/RTU or Modbus/TCP are used. The ‘industrial standard interface’ is SunSpec, but it is not clear enough defined/implemented to be an out-of-the-box solution for all kind of systems.

Do you have any specific system in mind?

Stefan
